CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – One of the conveniences of being a tech professional or online worker is that ideally you can work from anywhere that has an internet connection. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home is something that is not really new to many of us in the tech industry. The implementation of community quarantine however has forced many companies to adapt this option.

However, working from home can also have various limitations and disadvantages. First, there are those common distractions and noises. Hearing a dog bark or a rooster crow in the background of a conference call is a common occurrence. Living with a family, most especially kids, can also bring challenges and distractions. Home internet, especially here in the Philippines, can also be unreliable or slow at times. With the climate that our country has, working conditions at home can be too warm or humid for comfort without the wonders of airconditioning.

Another challenge with working at home is separating the line between work and personal life. There is a tendency that your work life extends beyond towards your personal life, and the reverse can also happen. This can negatively affect productivity and order in either your work life, personal life, or both.

Thus, there are some who prefer to do their work in an office, at a coffee shop, or at what are known as co-working spaces.

These co-working spaces are meant for online workers to have an ideal environment to focus on work away from a traditional office but avoids the inconveniences and distractions of working at home.

SM CDO Downtown Premier is one the malls in Cagayan de Oro to offer its own Co-working Space which is available during mall hours. Its Work From Mall initiative encourages online workers to do their job conveniently away from home at their Co-working Space located at the 4th floor of the mall, in between The Food Hall and Suarez & Sons shop.

By just a purchase of worth at least PHP 100 only at participating stores at the mall, you can get free access to the co-working space and connect to their wifi internet. Connecting to a mall wifi may not be very secure or reliable though, so it is best if you have your own pocket wifi.

SM CDO Downtown Premier strictly implements health standards such as requiring of facemask, faceshield, thermal scanning, and social distancing that are enforced by its safety officers and staff to ensure the health and safety of its customers.

What do you think about SM’s Co-working Space? Perhaps doing your work there or at a coffee shop is what you need to give you the focus needed to complete that long-standing task.
